I love paintings in different media, and this type of painting involves lots of different materials and techniques: texture, i.e. gesso, glue, gold or silver leaf, paint or more canvas fragments painted like I do in my Butterfly series.

It takes quite a while to build the painting, adding layer after layer. But the good news is that the end result is always stunning. I love using different types of gold leaf. Few months ago I created a massive butterfly commissioned painting to go on a cruise ship in reception area using 22 Carat gold leaf. That was a lot of work, placing each individual leaf on a massive 4 meter by 2 metre painting!

Also having texture on the canvas surface adds a somewhat 3D effect, so when you cover the raised textured surface of the painting with gold or silver leaf, the whole canvas takes on a different look when you pint a spot light on it, with gold or silver shining and adding extra visual effects to the painting.
